How the gift of God’s Word is changing lives among the Khumi of Myanmar!
Earlier this year, we were delighted to share news that after several delays due to the pandemic and distribution difficulties, our partners were finally about to begin delivering faithful, accurate copies of God’s Word to the Khumi people in Myanmar.
The Khumi first heard the gospel in the 1920s, and many came to saving faith. While the church has continued to grow, access to God’s Word has been limited. The few copies that were available were often outdated and inaccurate translations. A century on thousands of the Khumi finally have their own copy, thanks to the efforts of our partners, the generosity of AsiaLink supporters and the goodness of God.
Below are just a handful of testimonies from those who have received a Bible for the first time in recent weeks.

“My parents taught me when I was a child that God was in everything and that everything was God. We believed that spirits determined our lives and tried our best to please them. When I was 17, a friend gave me three small booklets. Each were about Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. I knew Christians in my village, but I had never really considered what they believed. As I read, I suddenly understood – the God of the Christians was the one true God, and I needed to accept Christ and my Lord and Saviour.
The truth of the gospel is very powerful. I shared with my parents all I had come to believe but they didn’t want to know. Only after 13 years of waiting, praying and sharing did the Lord touch their hearts. My heart was full of joy when they both became followers of Christ!
Until today, my three booklets were the only Christian literature I ever owned. Now, I am 56 years old and finally own a Bible after nearly 40 years of waiting. These gifts will be a huge help to my ministry in our church as I organise the women’s fellowship.
Thank you for this great donation to the Khumi people. These are the first Khumi Bibles for generations!”

“I was brought up in a Christian home and in church but didn’t become born again until I was 20 years old. My church held a week of Bible teaching which I attended. I used to think that simply doing good things would be plenty to get to heaven but as I listened to the pastor, I understood that salvation comes not by works but by faith in Christ alone.
After I became a Christian, I began to teach Sunday School. I already taught in a local school so thought it was a good way to use my gifts for the Lord. We didn’t have Bibles to study, so I taught the class verses I had memorised from the pastor. In total, the class memorised 25 different passages!
We have prayed for a long time that my people would have Bibles. Not only did I want one myself, but for the class I taught as well.
I thank God for each person that has provided us these Bibles. It is the first one both I and all the young people have owned. I can’t wait to use them in my Sunday School class!”

“I thought I was a Christian until I read my Bible. I believed that doing good things, behaving well, and belonging to a Christian family is what it meant to follow Christ.
When I was given a Bible, I read the entire New Testament for myself for the first time. When I read Ephesians 2:8–9, I realised how wrong I had been. Only by grace through faith could I be saved. Salvation is a gift of God. The Lord opened my eyes to this truth as I read, and I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour.
The Bible is so powerful, and understandable when we read asking for God’s help. Thank you for this blessing that have flowed from you to me and all our Khumi people.”
