Sorrow & Salvation

Mourning the loss of a leader in South–East Asia.

We received sad news from our partners in South–East Asia recently of a pastor killed in a targeted shooting. While we cannot name this country for reasons of security, nor disclose the circumstances of the incident, please pray for the family grieving the loss of a father and husband. Pray too for our partners in this part of the world as they mourn the loss of a faithful brother and prominent leader in this network of underground churches.

Persecution against believers in this region has been steadily increasing in severity over the past few years. There have been many reports of Christians attacked and church leaders killed. Despite this, the Lord is still working and building His church.

While our partners mourn, their ministry continues. The next few weeks will see a youth conference take place in a secure location. Hundreds will gather for a few precious days of teaching and fellowship. Pray that this conference would be a great encouragement and comfort to all who gather in the wake of this brother’s martyrdom.

Meanwhile, live broadcasts continue to reach into this closed nation. Believers expelled from the country and blacklisted from returning prepare and broadcast gospel messages on social media. Thousands tune in every day and there have been amazing responses to the message of Christ that is shared. One man admitted that he was not yet a Christian but that he liked the teaching a lot so listened live every day. Another man, retired from national military service, was so impressed that he connected with local church in–country.

In one village, where many were listening regularly, the Lord opened the hearts of 23 people who all came to faith in Jesus! Consequently, an elder from a local church began to visit this group, providing further resources for their discipleship.

Pray for each person listening to these broadcasts that the Lord would bring them to Himself as they hear His Word. Pray for this group of 23 so wonderfully saved that they would mature and grow in their faith. Pray for all believers in this part of South–East Asia, that persecution would serve only to increase the spread of the gospel through bold witness.
